THOUGHTS FROM FROM THE DESIGNER

I have always been fascinated with the point where the earth meets the sky. Places like mountains and islands draw me in for that reason. When Kelly asked me if I would design this set of patterns based on her childhood home on Beals Island, it took me back to my own childhood. I climbed enough trees to know that sitting high above the ground, even the thickest branches would sway and dance with the wind. I remember weekends at the lakeside cottage of family friends. Lying on my back with the weathered wood of the dock beneath me, I watched the tops of the pines sway above me. Those were peaceful moments, times when all felt right with the world. Kelly described her life on the island to me in much the same way. I aimed to capture our feelings of calm in these designs with slipped stitches and the natural variations of color in the Downeast yarn. The tones in the sky blue yarn almost feel like a breeze to me. If I look too long, it brings me back to the memories of sun on my face and the lapping of the water at the edge of the land.

Peace, Tal
