This morning I woke up after an apparently very deep sleep as my laptop was beside me not the bed still open and I was still propped up on the pillows. I had been working a colorful design for Farm Blend and remember saying to myself I'll just rest my eyes .... zzzzzzzz. I lay there for a few more moments until snoring dogs ceased to snore and the coffee pot beckoned me.
Everyday is different, never the same. My morning consists of small routines of coffee consumption and answering emails while trying to catch the weather report, then breakfast and getting two teenagers up and out the door, then maybe starting laundry and cleaning up from breakfast, then out to feed and water the animals. Some weeks I am preparing for shows, and some working on designs, and every week I am packing orders and replenishing inventory. I have worked from my home for so long, I can't imagine what it must be like to drive away for the day .... but the other side to that is some days I wish I could.
Working at home means discipline and organization and willpower, all traits I never considered myself to possess. I have no employees, I am a one woman three dog show, thats why when I travel and you see me at shows I am sooooooooo beyond happy to show and share ... and maybe talk a little too much! I have been teaching and doing shows and markets for quite a few years now, working around my kiddo's schedules and waiting for them to be a the point in life where they could come along if they wanted to, or to stay at home and make sure sheep, goats, chickens and dogs were cared for.
My job has taken me across the country. This January I finally made it to the West coast to attend a national trade show. How lucky am I that my hard work takes me places I have never been?
No doubt you have noticed that I have changed my business name to Romney Ridge Yarns & Wool. I am making some changes, growing and expanding, embracing the next phase of life. It was a year ago today thought I though about being more mobile as a business. My little garden shed needed to be replaced after years of use as my yarn shop. And since my attendance at markets and shows was way up, it just made more sense to me to replace it with a mobile version. More options, more products and lots of fun!
So please take a look at my Kickstarter Campaign ... if you haven't already :) and share it with your friends. Thank you so much for your support! xoxo
